Love gardening, meeting new people and helping others?
Allotment Buddies is a brand new project from Food Portsmouth. The project is designed to provide a helping hand, or ‘Buddy’, to those allotment holders who are struggling to maintain their sites. The project will also provide opportunities for those wanting to be more involved with growing foodstuff, meeting other people and becoming more active.
We are looking to recruit a team of volunteer ‘Buddies’ to provide the help. These Buddies might already be experienced gardeners who want to share expertise; they might be new to gardening and want to learn for themselves, or they could be individuals who want to be more mobile, socialise and get out and about.
The initiative is based at the community plot at the Milton Piece and Moneyfields allotment site on Wednesday afternoons where the community gardener will liaise with those needing help and volunteers. The community gardener will be on hand to offer support and advice, as well as plenty of tea, coffee and good conversation.
If you fancy spending a couple of hours a week helping to grow a variety of foodstuff, meet others, get outdoors and get active then being an Allotment Buddy could be for you. Or, if you need some help with planting, sowing, weeding, watering among other jobs then an Allotment Buddy could be for you.
No experience is necessary; tools and equipment provided; volunteer expenses can be covered.
